05 Taco TRD Sport vs. Off Road
aparently, the new taco is only available with the locking rear diff if you get the TRD Off Road pkg, not the TRD Sport pkg. I'm trying to decide which one to buy - I don't think I need the locking rear, but for future resale value...should I get it anyway? Your thoughts are appreciated.

I would get the off-road version. I didn't think I needed a rear locker when I bought my 4Runner and not I regret not getting one.
When we get my wife an 05 Taco, it is going to be a DC long bed with the TRD sport package (since the locker is not an option on the long bed)

Yep, another vote for the Off-Road package. I discovered that the LSD on the Sport Package isn't a Torsen, but a basic mechanical clutch pack, so I changed my tune. Plus, no ricey hood scoop to explain away and a softer ride (from spring, shock and sway bar specs) than the Sport. Locker retrofit cost is steep, while cost of entry is small. Residual should be stronger for either package compared to a base truck.

What a great site. This is my first time posting. I have been learning form all of you guys for almost a year. I had the same question about the off road vrs the sports package. I want a lond bed D/C but in the Los Angeles area they do not have it with the off road package. It only comes with the sports package. Also nobody seems to have one with the JBL premium sound. The tires for the long bed with the sports package are terrible. I would like to know somethig positive about the sports package.

Well I usually hang out on 4x4 wire, and just lurk around here. I am looking for info on lifting my '05. I wanna put my Ivan rims from my previous Taco on the new one with 265/75/16 M/T's of some sort. Probably Pro Comp Explorer M/T's. My previous Taco was exactly the same as the '05 only it was an '03. Really didn't want to get rid of it, I supercharged it, lifted it, and had a custom valance on it with foglights, but the wife is expecting and I wanted something a little bigger without going to the doublecab.
