does anyone have any tips on installin the 22re into a manual trans?????????
im having the hardest time tryin to do so

 

nope its just a bear to get the imput shaft to line up to the clutch disk...it took me about 2hrs to get it done

 

Lots of wiggling and shakin. When we put mine in the first time it went like a glove, nice and smooth. The dumb mech assistant forgot to put something on so we had to take it back out. The second time it didn't want to budge. 5 guys movin and shakin we finnaly got it to go. good luck.

 

Did you use the clutch alignment tool when tightening the pressure plate?
That gets the clutch plate centered, then lots of wiggling and realigning and cussing ought to get it done.

 

Try using a little multi-purpose grease on the input shaft, pilot bearing in the crank shaft and the cluthc release mechanism. Lower the engine into position and instead of shaking and rocking place the transmission in first gear and as you slide the two together gently roll the vehicle forward and back as to help alighn the splines in the clutch hub. Now install clutch release hardware so you can press the clutch pedal, then install the bellhousing bolts, snug them down evenly but just enough to put slight pressure pulling the transmission and engine together. Have your buddy hop in and push the clutch pedal while you roll the vehicle back and forth or what I find easiest to install the starter and bump the engine over just a tad while the clutch pedal is pressed. They will come together like a charm, works every time.

 

thanx for the suggestions guys....
since i didnt have the hoist no more and the engine was just an inch of holes for the mounting bolts. it was real hard to get it in with just jacks from underneath. so i went ahead and took off the drive shaft, unmounted the tranny, and moved it back so the engine would fall into place....then i mounted the tranny to the engine, a lil easier
hopefully ill be done tomarrow and i can start her up

 

One other, possibly easier suggestion...unbolt the tranny and move it back. Put the motor in first, then rebolt up the tranny. It only takes about 20 mins and it's a HELL of a lot easier. Been there...done that.
