150k on 93-4Runner, Swap Engine? or not

I've got oil pressure reduction after a 2nd valve job (recent), especially when the engine warms up. What should I expect to pay for a new engine and where shall I get it fixed near San Rafael, California. I'm not quite sure if a short-block is the answer or a full engine swap. Can anyone help?

I replaced the 3.0 v6 in my '91 3 years ago and Hamer Toyota (San Fernando)charged me almost 8 grand. That was a new block, heads, the whole works. I don't know what an "engine" shop would cost ya.

The local Toyota mechanic in Bend was doing an engine re-build and he had the price cap at $4,500 parts and labor for a 3.0 if that helps any.

Try running some Auto-Rx first. If that doesn't work then find a reman shortblock and put your heads on it. I bet you could be done with it for $2500 out the door. Just shop around.

Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! Let me tell you man, you can listen to me or not, but I'm here to tell you! I R&Red my 3.0 when it had 297,000 on it, it had low Oil pressure then and it still does! I did the block, valves, you name it. Still low OP! I'll never worry about it, nature of the beast! I owned 3 3.0 and they all had low OP! The 3.0 is known for low OP! Don't waste your money, I'm telling you from experience! I have almost 303,000 miles on my dog! I did it all by the book to the "T", still low OP!! Don't waste your money!
Hope this finds Ya!
Good Luck! :pat:

I'm with nunsa. I only have 119k on my 94 and it has low op, at idle, but right where it should be under load. It runs like a champ.

Ok, Here's the skinny: The 3.0 has low oil pressure. nature of the beast! The passagases are restricted! After R&R my 3.0 it hardly goes over a 1/4 at idle and not even 1/2 way when under load! Worried? Not at all!
My truck owes me nothing, nothing at all!!! I have 303,000 on this block, 297,000 before the HG leaked, worried? Not me man! She runs like a MFer!
Don't waste your money, the 3.0 has low OP! It comes w/the payments!
G/L!

Yea, my 22re has super low oil pressure and I have wondered about that since I bought it but the reall test is wether or not it smokes while driving. First it wil just give a puff when it fires up (mine does this now). After that it will make a decent cloud while idleling untill it is warmed up. This is when you want a re-build. If you keep driving it, it will then smoke all the time and puff a cloud out every time you hit the gas. These are the true warning signs and beleve me, you can't miss them. Surprisingly, the engine seems to maintain most of its power untill the end. (I have some eveperience with toased engine from my dads $500 cars we rode in while I grew up).

Thanks Nunsa, that's encouraging. My mechanic discouraged me from the new engine, but agreed to put in an oil pump anyway. I told him to go ahead since he's only charging me three hours labor (it's rated for nine). Think it will help?

Sorry Ag, I'm an idiot (like the Red Sox), but what's Auto-Rx?

Thanks to all for the help. Hey the new oil pump did the trick. The OP indicator is now at half or better. It's running like a champ and isn't using a lick of oil. The valve job/oil pump combo. did the trick. The damage was about $2700.

In the owners manual it says that at idle it should be anywhere from the bottom of the guage to the first mark, IIRC. I would not worry about it unless there are problems.

2700? damn. I have estimated the cost of my near future vortec 350, 700r4, np241 swap at $2000. that leaves $700 for tires or something. Damn I'm glad I can work on stuff myself!
