Alpine install in a 3rd generation-questions

2000 Runner with the stock AM/FM, CD, cassette player- all one unit, double DIN. My questions are-

I read the write up in the "write up" section about an install for a third generation and it showed how simple it was when reusing the metal brackets on each side that hold the stereo and the pocket below it together. I don't have that pocket right now because of the oversized factory unit, but I picked up a new pocket to mount under the Alpine. My question is do I have those brackets or do I need to order them? I just don't know if they're in the dash or not when there is no pocket? When I put the stereo in my Taco it was so simple because it already had the pocket and the brackets-- it was as simple as about 8 screws. Anyone who has taken out the factory double DIN unit, are they in there?

Also, after reading up on here (and checking out websites) is it safe to assume that it takes 6-1/2 up front and 4 in the rear if I don't want to break out the Sawzall? If I have to cut to mount 5.25's in the back I'd rather not. But are 4's in the rear fool proof?

Thanks.

Easy way to find out about the brackets, take your deck out and check.

To answer your speaker question, yes, 4" should fit pretty easily in the rear doors. I have a 99 and I have 4" speakers in the back.

I installed an alpine in my 2000 Limited.
The way it works with the pocket is this...
You should have a bracket that comes with the pocket. That bracket is used to mount the pocket to the head unit. Then you screw the head unit into the mount points in the dash. So you put the two together and mount as one unit. I got my stuff from Crutchfield and everything needed was included.

Mail me if you have specific questions during the install. It is really pretty easy.

I know squat re: the speakers.
