03 Runner...rekeying ALL locks ???

I was unlucky enough to have my 85 pickup broken into last week. It was 5 pm and the truck was parked downtown for 40 mins.

Perps from another old Ford pickup used keys to unlock the door (witness who did not know it was MY truck) saw it go down.

Lost cell phone , some bills in envelopes with checks (completed , not new) and my freakin 4Runner key and Viper alarm remote. I had grabbed something from the runner on the way to work and I normally p[ut keys back in house...this was the ONLY time those keys have been in the Ford

I cancelled phone at 5.45 pm and they has been using it since 5.09 pm, 8 mins after I parked !

I had to cancel/freeze my checking account as they will try to cash checks or even duplicate them.

However, as they now had my keys, alarm remote and addy, I had to haul ass home and get the 4runner to a new location. I took it my alarm installer who cleared the codes and re-programmed a new remote on the spot. The alarm will no longer recognize the old remote but that was $150.

I still have to re-key the 4runner to be safe. I can get the ket set with keys and barrels for around $300. Anyone done this ? I am assuming the immobilizer key has to be re-programmed by Toyota ? Right ?

I may just replace outside door lock keys (I never use keys anyway) and keep the old ignition key cos if crook tries to open truck with my old keys and cannot get in, he will prolly assume all keys changed. If he wants in anyway, an ignition lock will not stop him getting in and if he wants to take it, you can overcome the immobilizer key with about 20 seconds and some resistors.

Any experience ???

BTW, insurance company will not pay for re-key as they say its preventative. Seems they would rather I have a total loss then they can drop me...

I'll give you a bump here, but have you tried T4R (see below)?
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/
Lots of 4th gen knowledge there on issues such as these.
