I found a few horses in my 3.0 (electric fan upgrade)

I replaced my stock engine fan with a good quality electric fan. I noticed more power now. Not much but a noticable amount. It was worth the upgrade. The fan was a direct bolt up.

Nice fan, I have seen these before.

I have seen the posts on the Ford Taurus fan also, but I'd would like to get something like this that is all in one complete package.

Does it have a cut off switch for lets say you want to do a water crossing?
Will it continue to run for a bit after you shut down the rig to help cool?
How does it wire up?

Yes, a write-up would be nice.

I like my flex-a-lite fan. I burned the thermostat circuit board up b/c of a bad connection. The customer service and phone support was great. They had a new part in the mail that day. Now my connections are soldered. I ran mine to an inside switch for manual shutoff, otherwise the thermostat controls it. I also ran the A/C clutch wire so that the compressor turns it on if the thermostat hasn't yet.

I'll do one for the fan when I get back to school this evening. I can also do one for the ISR mod for the 3.0.

hey Fever, is it part number FLX-165? and did you have to drain the coolant and all that mess, or was it just a bolt on deal?

Very good write up! When I converted to an elec. fan 5 years ago,I got my fan out of a Chevy Blazer from the boneyard. $25.00, I bought a relay and wired it into the ign. switch, it's always on, no big deal! It never o.h.'s even w/the ac on! It runs at operating temp, it's always a little below 1/2 on my guage, so it doesn't run cool either!
I felt no big diff. in HP! I'm cheap as they come so $25.00 bucks worked for me!

My ford taurus fan is still kicking. I got it for $25 from the junkyard too. I wired it into a 40 amp relay and used a manual thermal control relay and a override switch. Mine runs about the same temp as yours at about 1/2 on the temp gauge I haven't wired up the high speed fan part of it yet I haven't needed it yet.

I did a write up on the Taurus Fan install a couple years ago now. It is somewhere here on this site. Just look under my username or Taurus Fan. Wish I was back stateside so that I could go wheeling. Sucks to be on deployment to the far side of the world.

It funny when you are deployed somewhere the little things you miss alot like driving your truck.

I did not have to drain the coolent to do this job. That part number sound right. I'll have to double check it. You have to put your own manual cut off switch in. I can be tricky. I set my fan up thru a relay when the AC comes on the elecrtric fan will come on also. Of course when the ac is not being used the fan is set up with a thermocupple thru the radiator and is adjustible for the temprature when the fan needs to run. I bought this from OK4wd in New Jersey. You can buy them thru Summit or Jegs for around $199 I know it sounds expensive but I can run mu ac now and in overdrive up hills with my automatic transmision not overheating, so it was worth it to me.
