I am looking at the american racing baja wheels. It lists the 2 available offsets as -19 and +20 - does this seem right? I am looking to get these wheels along with 32x11.50 for my 1999 toyota tacoma 4x4. also, what is the correct bolt patter? 6x5.5 or 6x4.5? - i know this should be a search type question, i tried without much success

the bolt pattern is 6x5.5 (same as chevy). dodge uses the 6x4.5. -19 and +20 sound reasonable for offsets. i'm surprised they don't offer a 0 offset too. i think you can go up to about 4.5" of backspacing on your yota. i have 3.75 (or maybe 3.875) but that's because i like the wheels to stick out a little.

 

which should i go with? +20 or -19? these #'s dont make much sense to me, sorry.

 

they should also give backspacing numbers, which is more meaningful. check out these websites on offset and backspacing:

negative offset pushes the wheels out from the side of the truck and positive offset pulls them in under more. negative offset puts more stress on the weel bearings and can cause the wheel to "swing" when steering so you may get more rubbing.

 

what is the offset of the stock 96+ 4x4?

 

i don't know, but backspacing is more important. just take off one of your wheels and measure what you have. then make sure your new wheels have the same (or close) backspacing.

 

thanks, those sites helped. i realize now that the offset is really meaningless without the wheel width and math, etc. the american racing site actually DOES list backspacing, i just didnt realize that the numbers were backspacing, as that number was changing along with the rim width. i do not like wheels/tires that are too far out from the vehicle, so i will probably go with a higher backspacing, thanks.

15x8 -19 3 3/4 6x5 1/2 - that looks like its the only one between those 2 that work?

 

5 1/4 backspacing sounds real big. you may have trouble clearing the suspension. i know 3 3/4 will work though, a friend has it on his taco. and i have that on my truck (but my truck is much older, so it's probably not a good comparison).
