Hi, has anybody replaced a set of Brembo rotors due to being warped yet? Part number i have is 09.7226.10 for my 99 4Runner. I have been replacing my Toyota rotors every 6 months since I got this truck. I have no other complaints with my third 4runner so I was just wondering if these rotors would be any better then stock Toyota replacements.

I have Brembo rotors with Auto Zone PF pads and they are AWSOME!!
I would recomend that setup!

 

I've had the Powerslot rotors w/ Performance Friction pads (same as TRD) for close to 3 years (45Kish) without any problems. I would assume that the Brembos would be as reliable given their reputation. Beats changing rotors every 6 months.

 

lemme give you my story.

before 97, my rotors would warp like crazy. i mean 8-10 months, i could practically predict when it would.

last time i couldnt turn the rotors anymore, i said screw it...

got genuine cross drill brembos.

i have yet to turn them YET.

been through 2-3 set of pads.

but the rotors still look great.

 

I put Brembos on my 94 approx 40K ago due to warpage of the stock rotors. The Brembos have been great, I agree with Jake94, they do appear to fade less than the stock setup.

I just put Brembo's on my '00 w/the 16" wheels. I paid about $45 +change for each plus s&h, totaled about $105 from Tirerack. The rotors plus the PF pads have been on for only a week, but I have noticed an improvement over the stock pads. I had 67,000 on my OEM rotors which had been turned once before as part of the brake TSB and they warped again. They're now bow and stern anchors.

 

Hey Idivinag, the part number I got from Brembo didn't show any cross drilling? do you still have the part number by chance; so that I can run a check to see if yours are showing the cross drilling? Did any of you guys swap the drums out too or did you just leave them? I know that the drums only handle maybe 20~30 % of the stopping power anyway.

Sounds pretty safe to me in any event, think I'll see who can bring a set in for me.

Brembo doesn't cross drill the rotors themselves or do they sell them that way from what I know. It's the company that sells them that does the drilling.

 

I am thinking of going with brembos too. Who installed them for you?

 

I got some brembo blanks from TaylorAutomotive.com for my 98 2wd for about $45 each shipped. They arrived the next day.
So far Im happy with them.

I got mine the next day. taylorautomotive, I think. I found the address through a search on here for rotors. WWWWAAAAaaaaayyyyyy better than stock. W/ the high end Shucks pads. No probs .

 

Well, warping happens b/c of heat. The slots and cross-drilled rotors dissapate that heat better and thats how they resist warping. The only problem with cross-drilling is it weakens the rotors a descent amount. When done correctly, they will last as good as any other rotor, but when not they will fail quicker than not. Espcially if your hard on your brakes. I am a slotted person myself. I can't wait til I gen my second set. The only reason why I don't have them now is b/c I had virtually no brakes, and I need my truck, so I had to use what they had at the shop. I'm not sure about cross-drilled, the only thing about slotted rotors is that they cannot be turned, and I'm pretty sure you can't turn drilled either (so it's a good thing you haven't needed to turn them ).

 

i've a set of cryo'd & crossdrilled brembros, they've done a great job for the last 40k.

got them from wheeler's offroad, but i'm sure there are many sources as theyre such a well-known manufacturer.

Okay, so I managed to get through the front line at Brembo; they don't like taking the time to talk to "non-dealers" anyway... Brembo has three different offerings for 16" rims for our trucks. First is a plain replacement rotor (better then factory I was told as the material used in the rotor is better) option #2 is slotted (Part #45488) this is for "sport type driving" kind of mid-offering I guess... Third option (Part #35488) is cross-drilled this is their high-pro track type rotor. I am waiting for pricing from Race tech as we speak, bracing my self for the cost…

They did mention that Brembo performs a "press" on their rotors to help minimize the chance of cracking that other shops can't or won't do, sounds like a counter sink operation to me.

It's has been two weeks that I have put Slotted and Dimpuled Brembo rotors on my 2000 4runner with PF pads and I'm loving them so far. No more vibration. I also changed the brake fluid to ATE Super Blue Racing which has higher boiling points.

I think it's that time for me to replace my brakes. I'm going with the OEM Brembo rotors and PF pads from Autozone since that seems to be a good way to go. I priced the pads at $39 and the link below has the rotors for 16" wheels for $43 x(2). That appears to be the best price. I checked some of the sites listed, and this place beats Tirerack and a few of the others:
