1st Gen gas tanks

My stock tank has a slight leak in it if i tighten the cap all the way and it builds up pressure and I want to replace it. Are there any aftermarket tanks out there? The most gas I have taken was about 12 gallons so i think I have a 14 gallon tank...would love to get a plastic 20 gallon tank so I don't have to fill up as much.

It shouldn't build much pressure when the cap is tight, the venting/evap collection system probaly needs checked. But, it shouldn't leak anyway... There used to be at least couple of aftermarket suppliers of tanks for 1st gens, try Arrow for one, maybe MTS, aero tanks...

you can look at jcwhitney, i think they make a 25 gallon tank, or you can go to www.downey-offroad.com and get an auxilary tank. i believe its about 13 or 14 gallons and mounts where your spare tire is.

I am going to contact MTS and see if they have a tank since their Ford truck tanks are about $150 any more than that and i will get a good used one....maybe a fuel cell??

It really is not much pressure, just the whoosh you get opening the cap is enough to let it seep ever so slowly. I bought a patch kit but they want you to scrape the tank clean and then patch and I am afraid if I chip off the undercoating I am going to uncover a bigger problem.

hey, it's better to have a big problem than a bigger problem with a whole crew of big sweaty guys with fire extinguishers joining you for a barbecue... just be real carefull when you clean up for the patch.
