Yay or nay on this stereo...

I still have the stock headunit in my 4runner, and it's a pain in the ass, it skips burnt cd's all the time. Plus my sub sounds not as great as it could, I have a 10" L7 powered by a RF power 551s which is 575w RMS. Should be loud but it's not. I think the low line converter I used was ˟˟˟˟ty.

So anyways I'm looking at replacements.

This Kenwood Unit is for sale a classifieds and wanted to know how well it would work for my system. It doesn't have a sub preamp with controls, but it has preamp outs. And hte buttons are green so it would match the buttons in my car. Hit or Skip?

Anybody ever use this? Or should I wait to get a headunit that can control the sub?

hey unr.frosh,
i would definatley wait and buy a deck that you know you will be happy with, get something with subcontrol and a high and low pass filter, spend some money and buy a good deck, it will make your stereo, trust me, i;d recomend going for a premier, i have found they are the easiest to understand and make your stereo sound real good, let me know what you've decided

I would pass on that. It looks nice but if your interested in sound quality and making your L7 sound better I would go with a unit that has at least 4 volt preamps and at least 3 of them(front/rear/non-fader or sub). Alpine makes a great deck. Search ebay for some of the higher end models and you should be able to get one brand new for around 300 then install it yourself.

Hes right about the decks that have a high pre-out volt level. Eclipse has one of the highest pre-out levels of anything. my AV8012 has a 8 volt out, upposed to my old panasonic with only 2 somthing. My seperates never sounded more clear, and my bass got louder at lower levels and cleaner at high volume. I have had 4 decks in the past 5 years and this Eclipse is by far the best.

What do you guys think about this deck? It seems like it'd be perfect for me...

I've got that head unit in my rig. It's good enough for me, though I'm not much of an audiophile when it comes to my truck (my home on the other hand...). I run a sub off it on a small 100w amp and it hits harder than I need it to. I've got it turned down pretty low and I'm really happy with it. It doesn't have preamp controls (as you mentioned), they would be nice, but if you take the time to dial in your sub you shouldn't need them. At least I haven't.
