Sony Xplod speakers....

Well im putting together a sys for my Taco. Im definately using a Alpine 9833 HU. I picked up a pair Of these Sony 6.5 Xplod 3-ways for the front doors. After reading some audio forums it seems people hate these speakers. Im having second thoughts about using them.

All 4 speakers will be powered by the HU 26w RMS.

Any other opinions and what to use for the rears?

This is what my installer said, verbatum: "The only way you'll get any power and clarity out of sony speakers is if you get hit by lightning and you have one hand on your **** and the other on the speakers." Stick with alpine, I recommend it. It sounds clearer and better.

Your installer has a good ear then. If you can ditch them without any ill feelings then do so. I don't know how much you are willing to spend but here are my choices listed by cost infinity, diamond audio, focal. I honestly have never heard of anyone who has had diamond audio or focal's who have ever switched to any other brand.

I have infinity kappa's and they are a very nice speaker well rounded, as long as you don't overpower them, I'm on my 2nd and 3rd set's (all my fault) but at least they have a good waranty.

I'd put my a$$ on the line for Alpine, they sound- power and clarity- are amazing. I can't imagine better speakers for pumping some rap and then sitting back to kenny G, and amazing sound in between. -audiophile in training.

(I recommend the Type R Alpines, personally. You can go up or down levels though (Types S, R and X))

I can do other speakers, but is there a mounting depth issue on the front door speakers? They only show shallow mount speakers for the 96 Taco on the Crutchfield site.

Again these will be powered by the HU. What I want is new front and rears (x-cab). Any specific speaks to run off the Alp? 26 RMS x4.

In all honesty each person's hearing is a little different, speakers that are amazing to some are only ok to others. I suggest you go to a car audio shop and listen and see what you like. That would help you more than any advice anyone can give, just don't get pushed around by salesmen. Going to a large electronics chain store is would work as well, (and sometimes easier since they have less pressure to sell you).

As for speaker depth, I don't know the taco well, but I have not heard many stories of any big problems with speaker depths around here. Most speakers will run decently off of 26watts rms, I would focus on the clarity of sound and depth of midbass when you listen to speakers and not the wattage required.

when listening for speakers there are several things I listen to to see if I like them.

1. Male vocals
2. Female vocals
3. Electric guitar
4. Acoustic guitar
5. Piano
6. Pipe Organs

All 6 are to be listened to at low volume and high.

And do not believe that you have 26w availble. Try 10 at MOST....

Get a small amp to drive your mids and highs and buy a deck that doesnt have an internal amp - I GARUNTEE your ears will thank you.
