3.slow how much to upgrade new engine?

3.slow how much to upgrade new engine?
So I made a offer on a 91 with a 3.slow sporting a bad engine. Is $1500 about right for a crate engine? What would it cost to upgrade to a 3.4? I can also have it rebuilt here in mexico if that would be a viable option. I am buying it so I can wheel it without caring if I go over or not--last weekend I had my rear drivers side wheel about 3' in the air.....it would really suck to roll a 00......

I see them on eBay for about $1200. But I have no idea what quality they are.
