Summer Toy - 1978 Corvette or 1978 Landcruiser

not sure how to create a poll, but anyways, I've had the corvette since July '01 but it hasn't been driven much. I've really got my eye on a landcruiser that's for sale. The vette is stock with the L-82 4 speed and is radio and a/c delete which makes it quite rare as far as options go. It's also got collector's plates which makes insurance quite cheap. Here is a pic

The cruiser is an FJ40 with the 2F and a 4 speed tranny. It's beige in colour and only has a bikini top and no doors. It is in very nice shape with virtually no rust. It has small lift and has 33x15.5r15 super swampers (which i would definitely sell if i bought it). The seller has been having a bit of a problem getting it aircared, but I can buy it for about $5000 CDN.

tough call. i need help.

Well lets see....

1. Wrap your ass in fiberglass (saw that on a Vette shirt 25 or so years ago)
2. Or the 'Cruiser

I'd go for the LC, and fix it up to your liking.
Vettes are nice too, but old LCs do it for me.

IT may be rare, but it is not a desirable Vette in my mind. It was not until the mid to early 80's that any resemblance of power came back to the cars from the gas crunch. I have driven a couple of 72's with the L82 and it makes a whopping 200 some HP. Not at all fast or impressive compared with others.

Get the cruiser, put some AT's on it and enjoy.

Get the LC, more time on the road, less in the shop.

Keep the 'Vette, just store it somewhere. My garage if necessary. Go ahead and get the LC and have some fun. It's only $5 grand...cheap for one in good shape. But I promise you, if you get rid of the 'Vette, you'll kick yourself for as long as you're alive.

When I was a kid, I had a chance to buy a '69 Jag, XKE Roadster, 19K miles but a tree branch had fallen on the bonnet and popped a fair size dent. It was cherry otherwise. Friend of my dad wound up with it, and knew I loved Jags. He offered it to me for $2500 when I was in HS. I knew I'd never be able to pay tuition and insurance. Man I wish I'd gotten the Jag.

Keep the 'Vette...You can always drive the LC for the summer then sell it if you don't like it. But deep down, you know you love the 'Vette...Which is why you're here asking advice.

I second this reply. get the LC, sell the tires and get some AT's. and keep the vette because you WILL regret it if you get rid of that thing

Now is when you need to ask your self... how much do I enjoy driving a car. Because there is somethign about driving a car that a truck just can't do as wee. Corners! The road I drive to work is one of the curvyest Ive driven and I just keep asking myself why the hell i'm in a truck. Then I realize I'm going to tellico next weekend and that reminds me why. Personally... I'd want to have a car and a truck/suv/OffRoad vehicle, not two of the same thing. Then there is the sentimental value on top of that. Don't do something you know your going to regret down the road. Though, I must say... that is one hell of a deal on that FJ.

Both! I've always been a little Corvette crazy, but how could you pass up that nice LC if you can afford it.

If you need me to store the Vette for you just let me know, lol!

I was gonna say sell it since the 185hp & the 205hp motors are only on par with a Honda Pilot in the 1/4 mile but I did note that you have the L82 option which bumps power up to 220hp,still kinda weak tho' by today's standards of quick.
I think you should check a collectors guide for it's value and decide for yourself if it's worth the space it's taking up in your garage.

A LC with a few mods might be pretty fun too.

Do what you want but dont have any regrets.

In my opinion if there is great wheelin trails up in BC than go FJ but if your on the street all the time than obviously the vette.

Also go to a Corvette forum and ask the same question. See what you get in responses, hahaha.

In my opinion and my dads we would say go for the landcruiser. My dad is a big corvette fan and says you should go for the cruiser. He says those are more rare than that corvette and that cruiser seems to be a real good price.

Save the 5 grand from the L/C and swap in a new engine for your vette.

They're both nice and I really like corvettes, but I would have to go with the Landcruiser.

Well, I'm going to go against the grain of what everyone else is saying.

Keep the Vette. This was you have a car and your Toy truck. You have the truck for utility, and the car for weekends, or when it's sunny, etc.

I second that. While those Vette's may not have been the most powerful, they were by far the iest, especially compared to the looks of the more modern ones. Plus, you already have a capable 4x4 (im assuming, from the pic)

I perfer the '68-'73 models with the small chrome bumpers,I don't like all the fiberglas plus if I owned a Vette it's gotta have more power to weight ratio than a new Toyota Celica GT-S.

I see your dilema.....

After owning an 85 Gold Z51 Coupe, then a 91 Steel Blue Metallic....I loved my Vettes. Had to sell them. Married now and 4Run'in all over the place.....dogs, groceries.....etc, it fits me better.

I DID see a drop top 2005 Canary Yellow Vette though today heading down I-26.......I'd give it all up in a heart beat for another Vette....but you cant beat a Truck!

See....For all I wrote....I am still no help.

Seriously....try and work them both out!

Face it bud...They're two great vehicles for two different purposes. And most of us would love to be in your shoes. I think I could even talk my wife into letting me have both...If I had the 'Vette already.
