I found a 2000 4Runner limited that is being parted out (CHEAP). I'm checking to see if it has an electric locker in the rear. Does anyone know if the rear track is the same on 2nd and 3rd Gens. If so, it might be less hassle to swap the whole rear end (if the gearing is the same). Were there any years that rear discs were offered on 4Runners? I don't know if I should go down this road or not. Any opinions? The alternative would be to eventually go to an ARB setup when I re-gear.

 

No, 3rd Gen's didn't ever have discs in the rear either/

 

I think everybody says it's easier to swap in the locker itself. The attachment points on the axle aren't the same. If you do swap in just the locker then there is some relatively minor drilling and welding needed. Do a search over on the 4wheeling board on ODW, there are lots of writeups in the threads there.

Not sure if it has the locker yet. Gotta go see it. It is about an hour away at a place that does rebuildables - they realized this one was too far gone to redo I guess. Stopped while out on a sales call - stopped to see if they had any pickups with Aisin hubs and got to talking...

I did stumble across a 99 SR5 Sport with 38K miles and rear locker and leather for 20K.

 

Do you know if he has the leather seats for sale still?
