A/C not cool...

Had my A/C recharged on my 92 4Runner a few months ago at the dealer--from R12 to R134a. For the first month or so, it blew incredibly cold, however now it's not as cold as it was. I immediately thought leak, however I checked the pressure with a gauge and it's literally perfect--right between the limits for "normal". I believe the actual reading was 35 PSI.

The dealer did inform me that my compressor was noisy and that at some point, it was going to go. Could a near-death compressor be the cause of less-than-favorable A/C temperatures? Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Yeah, it sounds like that compressor may have called it quits on ya. I've gotta say, even though the A/C sucks away a lotta power...mine is FREEZING COLD! Ya gotta love that good ole Toyota engineering...well...other than the compressor that crapped out on ya :pat:

Hey, after 214000 miles, it's about the only thing that I've had to replace besides brakes. I bought this beast two years ago, and it's been rock solid...I have no problem with spending the $$ to fix something as minor as an A/C compressor, even though it might be a 400-500 dollar fix.

Any suggestions on replacements? Should I go OEM? Also should I let someone else do it or is it something that can be handled without taking the truck in?
