Cup holder 1983 Toyota Pick Up Bench seat
I have a 1983 Toyota pick up with a bench seat and I desperately need a cup holder and a box to put my wallet and cell phone. Anyone have a creative idea as to how I can do this? I don't want just any cup holder you can get at the local part store but something more original.
I appreciate any thoughts my fellow vintage Toyota enthusiasts may have.,
Thank you!

I have the same issue, regular cab with a bench. I did pick up a cupholder from these guys but it was for my 91. They do show a cupholder for your year but just a cupholder.

they also have a cubby for a pack of smokes and a lighter in the all products section but not sure if a wallet would fit?? Anyway all their stuff is 3d printed and my ashtray is done very well. Someone else may chime with more ideas or stuff they’ve done

You might try checking the local junkyard for something that looks like it would work for you, then modifying it to fit. This could be as simple as some light trimming to make it match the truck floor and bending some metal to make a bracket, then using rivet-nuts to attach it to the floor. If you want to put more work into it, find a cup holder and phone pocket like you want at the junkyard, then cut it out of the console and do a custom fiberglass shift boot trim and paint to match.
Another thought is just build something out of wood and cover it like you would a speaker enclosure. Car Audio Fabrication on Youtube would be a good resource for this. He mainly does audio systems, but the same woodworking principles would apply and might give you some creative inspiration.
I know some Ford Rangers have a compact cup holder around the shifter that might be easy to modify to fit a Toyota and be similar to what you are looking for.

Hey Supernerd,
Thank you for your comments. I actually found a aftermarket fabricator that has made a mount and bracket they sell for just this. I would attached the link here but don't know if that would violate Yotatech use policy. My problem is that the bracket and mount is made for Toyota pick ups (2WD & 4WD) starting with 1984 models. And of course my truck is a 1983. I am coming to understand the floor bolt pattern is different for the 1983 model. Just my luck.
Thanks again!

If you are using anything that was not originally designed for your truck, you will need a custom bracket anyway. Years ago, before I even had a welder, I made a bracket by just bending 2 90* ends on a piece of flat stock and drilling holes to mount a 90's 4Runner console in an 88 pickup. Rivet-nuts would also be a good tool to use to both mount the bracket to the body for easy removal, and the console to the bracket. This would also give you the ability to shim it with washers if it is not quite perfect. Mine had a lot of washers
. It was fairly easy and turned out well when I was done. Good luck with whatever you come up with!
