LCE or 22RE Performance master rebuild kit for 22re
I have a 22re long block from a 2wd pickup that I want to rebuild and put in my '91 4WD pickup. The goal is to take my time and rebuild it over the winter and do a complete engine swap once the weather gets nice again.
Looking for advice on master rebuild kits.
So far the only ones I've looked at are 22RE Performance and LC Engineering kits. I do not know what or if there are pros/cons to either. I've bought from both places in the past and have been equally happy.
My '91 is a street queen. It doesn't go off-road or see the track and I'm not looking for any significant performance gains unless they're no-brainer upgrades.
150k (ish) on the 2wd motor. Driven by a sweet older lady (she crashed it).
Anything else I'd need? Any head improvement upgrades? I'm planning on reusing the crank and connecting rods.
I'm open to any and all advice.
TY

I'm running a LCE cylinder head and a handful of their other parts. Not impressed with anything other than their header. I'm planning on going the 22re performance route when I can afford it. In my mind they spec the best parts, do the best machine work, and their quality control is next level.

Ishino Stone makes a very nice engine gasket kit. Supplier for many Japanese auto manufacturers.
OSK timing chain kit are very good. The most critical component, imo, is the chain tensioner. I've seen too many chain replacements go bad prematurely over a poor quality tensioner. Steel timing chain guides vs plastic has advantages and disadvantages for each
Taiho is an excellent bearing company. Taiho is an oem supplier .
NPR (Nippon Piston ring Co. )great for pistons/rings. Also oem supplier.
All these quality Japanese manufacturer parts can be bought at remarkably reasonable prices.

Thanks for the comments so far.
I kinda want to go the "kit" route for simplicity vs buying every component separately from different vendors.
This will be a complete rebuild, including piston, mains, rebuilt head etc.

I’d ask for the names of the companies that make up their kit before buying.
It matters.
at least 22RE Performance gives some decent pictures of their individual components. LCE, not so much.
A new waterpump is preferred. Aisin pumps are pretty reasonable.
A new oil pump is debatable. A pretty simple, but durable design. Reusing existing one very possible.
i assume you meant having your head cleaned up. I’d keep the oem head if at all possible

I built my turbo 22rtp will all engine parts from Jim Putney at 22re performance, and would use his parts anytime I can.
I did buy a couple of parts from LCE that either he doesn't sell or were out of stock (adjustable double cam sprocket)

Both 22RE Performance and LC Engineering offer reputable master rebuild kits. For a street-driven 22RE rebuild with no major performance goals, either kit should work well. Consider contents, additional components, and the condition of your crank and rods.
