What is this connector for?

I found an unused connector, right around the starter. I'm assuming something should plug into it, since it doesn't have a plug or a cap, but don't know what. Any ideas?

I think one is for the 4wd indicator on the dash, another for reverse lights?, and the open one might be for the oil temp sender if you had an atm.

You could follow the wires on the two that are connected. If they go to trans/transfer than my first two guesses are right. Or you could also try unplugging and seeing if those lights quit working.

Knowing the colors of the wires going into the connector would be helpful

Looks like the wires are Black and Black/White. The other two wire bundles do go to the transmission. I'm beginning to think that the unused connector is there for an ATM neutral safety switch, so that's why it's just dangling there on my 5 speed.

Yeah, I think it's for the neutral safety switch. According to FSM, the neutral safety (start) switch has Black and Black/White wires leading to it, just like my connector has:

And this diagram shows the three connectors near the starter, just like mine, and labels one of the three as Neutral Start switch. So I think I can put a bow on that one.:
