My 1993, 3.0, 4runner had a leaking power steering pump and steering box. I bought a seal kit and rebuilt both. The power steering would work great for a few minutes then the wheel will turn steadily until lock. No noises, not tough to steer, everything's fine for the first five minutes then its just turns till the wheel is stuck

Any ideas what this could be? Im about to buy another pump

Is there a specific atf or pwr str fluid I need to use?

Did you have a FSM when reassembling the steering gear? My 1987 had a few preloads that needed to be set as I put mine back together. Wonder if something is too tight(or loose) causing the bind. I'm thinking it'd more of a gear issue, and not the pump.
