Rear defog repair

Has anyone successfully repaired the defogger strips on a rear window? If so, what kit did you use? I’m not sure I want to drop $600 on a new window glass. The internet is a hodgepodge of success and horror stories.

I know you already checked for broken wires between hatch and body....
I used the permatex paint-on stuff with only mild success, from barely working to sort of working. The original was flaking apart.
At one of the Pick N Pull 1/2 off sales not much later I was able to score a new-to-me rear window that looked- and worked- better. Newer third gen, but doesn't really solve the old stuff is still old situation so I imagine I'll be watching what works for you for when the need arises again.

It's definitely in the window that is the issue since some of the lines work and some don't. I wish it was just the contact pad pulled off. I've watched more YT videos than I care to admit about the paint on kit and have gathered the same opinion as your results, "not quite as advertised success." I was hoping someone had either a better or different product, or a line on replacement glass. Funny you mention the pick and pulls, I have an entire tailgate with window in my garage, but it's the same vintage and likely would have similar deterioration. I priced out new glass from McGeorge/Daytona/Olathe and they are all around $500 (which isn't horrendous) but none will ship and my local dealer refuses to price match.

You're looking for a dealership who's part of the Toyota parts group. Bosch Toyota South is one, the parts group addresses start with https://toyotaparts....it won't let it be not a link. Sorry, it's not a link, just a beginning.
I found one within a 20 minute drive with a bit of looking.
