Unknown accessory in a beat up 1989 pickup

Does anyone know what would have gone here?

I bought this pickup at an auction, so I don't really have a history with it.

That hole looks like it is for the back-lighting dimmer, and is in the same location as where the dimmer is located on 1984-1988 Trucks, but Toyota moved the dimmer up and to the left of that hole for 1989 +.

The Trucks that I have seen I think just had blank plugs in that spot covering the hole.

I can't think of anything that uses that hole, at least for the U.S. market.

Thanks for that. My truck is an 89, and you can see my dimmer is where you are describing.

I'll start hunting for a blank to go over the hope next visit to pick n pull.

I have never seen anything in that hole, mine had a blank that I removed for my bass knob which was perfect for in that location, should be an easy find and if not eBay is your friend

I have an 86. 4Runner that has a thin “knob” there to turn to open the gas “door” that’s on the outside.

My '89 2wd 22re 5spd Mine's a stripper model, not even a cigarette lighter. Maybe I can put a lighter in that space?

You might be better just getting the lighter from the yard and making it happen, wouldn’t be hard to add in the factory spot and you’d have to bore that one out quite a bit.

So just for continuity, there is some weird, " Oh no... what have you done" to this truck. There appears to be an attempt at adding cruise control.

If you look at the original picture I posted, you may notice something taped to the turn signal. That is apparently a cruise control from something. There is also a actuator under the hood with wires jammed through the firewall. The actuator cable is not connected to anything, and is cracked and rusted nicely.

There is a really cool electrical integration: there is a wire jammed in the fusebox.

Should I take pictures of this for the same reason that horror movies can be fun at the right time? Seriously - if you like some awesome wiring modifications done on quaaludes, this is going to scratch that itch in a special way.

That is where my 86 instrument panel/dash back light dimmer is located.

i have two 89 model 4wd pick ups and both of them have a red light that blinks in that location. I think it may be for a security system that used to be on the truck prior to my ownership. Hope this helps.
