Happy New year and hope all is started well for ya!
I'm a new user and first time Toyota owner here. I've been creeping the threads for a bit and it certainly helped in my purchase making. Thanks for that!
Recently sold my 2014 Jeep Jk for a sweet price and got this little thing as a project truck.
Have at it and let me know thoughts on the buy, the build and how my starting canvas looks.

My intention is to build an ultra reliable truck for my young son and I to use as our running about/fun truck as he gets older.
Truck Stats/Info:
Canadian Market - Japanese Domestic Manufacture - 1991 Pickup DLX - 2WD 22re - 5spd (W56? A-E?)
300,000 KMS. (I'd be the 4th owner, 1 autobody claim - dented door), Lots of Good Steel. Some surface body filler have been found so far, battle scars all over the thing. Front Driver Quarter has 1 small rust hole. Bumper has small rust hole. Has Aftermarket rims, rough shape (16"), some kinda frankenbumper on the back that must be 500 lbs.
City drove tradesman truck that has idled around Victoria BC for 30 years.
Build Needs (And wants):
Solid Power 200-300 HP
Decent Economy
Fishing with a 16' canoe,
Camping/Hunting (Shale Logging Roads, Very little snow mostly water, went 2wd for this after driving my jeep for 8 years and using the 4x4 like 3 times)
The Kiddos Sports, Beach Bumming

Thinking a basic 22RE long block. Pacesetter Header into Cat into Muff to side exit. air injection delete. Intake side do an offenhauser dual port with a holley 2300 sniper system, EGR delete. New Harness and electrical,
Dual Battery Setup for lighting and tunes, Brakes and Shocks with rear load carriers, twist the torsion bars up, Clean up the motor bay, patina/scuffed paint job and call it a truck?

Anyways, Appreciate the input and thanks to the community for putting together this wonderful little resource to draw on. Who needs a Chilton or a Haynes with Yotatech!?
200-300 hp out of a 22re from the mods you listed will not happen. You will need to have forced induction to get there.
Not sure how much lift you want but, cranking the torsion bars up will make it ride stiffer.
You will also want to go through all the ball joints and steering components. Avoid the too good to be true all in one kits you see on ebay/Amazon. They are crap.
I wouldn't be against a super charger. Not too keen on a turbo though. Not totally concerned with a high ground clearance. Can probably pickup an inch or two out of tires rims and Tbars ya?

Pretty much the only bolt on supercharger option. Still won't get you to 200hp. There is a high boost setup for 10psi but it doesn't say what power to to expect from it.
If all you want is a inch or two, yeah turning up the torsions will get that but you will still get a little harsher ride.
Done: Headlights. Tailights. Shocks front and back. Exhaust. (Pacesetter header, silver nickle cat, thrush muffler, side turndown.), lashed the valves, cleaned up a shorted out pioneer from 1999, Newish battery terminals and grounds, new plugs, new starter, valve cover cleanup, vac checks lines braided, egr and air injection delete, evap cleaned up and left in, throtlebody rebuild, plenum cleaned, gaskets etc. Etc. Etc. Etc.
Still to do.
Timing set. Timing cover, oil and water pump, Brakes.fuel system (circuit open relay, filter), bodywork, seats, real stereo, paint, tipple double rollbar and a spare motor.
Easiest truck I've ever worked on. Least amount of broken stuff.
