8 days ago I reported a problem with a brand new Odyssey car battery. On removal of the terminal caps, heavy dark brown oxidation was found on the neg post (this is usually indicative of leaking gases). I cleaned the post with a terminal cleaner, as the battery was also not testing well. Sent photos of battery & test results, 1/19 to Enersys Customer service, and had been going back and forth until 5 days ago, when the lady replied "I'll check with my engineers and get back to you". If I could have known this purchase was going to cost this much time, on top of the $323 I paid for the battery, I would have bought something else. Is there anyone at this company who can arrange a refund or exchange?
Can you bring it back to the store you bought it at and swap it?
Those are normally great battery's.
No. I ordered it direct from the manufacturer, Enersys, who sells under Odyssey, North Star, etc. Since my OP here, I looked these batteries up on Amazon, and reviews are ~10% 1 star. Optima are worse. Tons of folks complaining about premature failure and lack of warranty service. I emailed again yesterday, after posting on their FB page, and they finally sent a return label. I plan to buy local, and the top shelf Walmart battery was my 1st pick (been running one in the Wifes' 4Runner for 2 years, and it tested very healthy recently), but they carry no 27F size for the Tundra. I've looked into Lifeline on a recommendation, but could not find a 27F in the line, and deep cycle may not be the best choice for my starter only application. I guess I can go to NTW, and get an Interstate. Their Amazon reviews seemed the least bad, of the one's I read.
That’s a bummer man. For the last 6 years I have used Duracell agm in all 3 of my trucks and my bus. I bought them at Sams club for $129 and have had good luck.
They are made by Deka
Thanks for the ideas, guys. I'm finding some sources that say group sizes 34R & 24F will fit the Tundra, in addition to the stock 27F size. Anyone used these other sizes? Spacers required? Love this guys product testing videos, this one is on batteries:
