Hey everyone first post and promise to keep it simple.
i could possibly purchase a 91 pickup 4x2 with the 22re engine automatic with 37000 miles.
My question for everyone is do you think it could be a reliable daily?
I have a 60 mile roundtrip commute. I dont plan to modify the truck. I'm hoping to get 100k miles and about 5 years out of it.
If you have suggestions on what to if you were to buy said truck that would be awesome

~30 years old and 37k on the odometer! Yeah expect it's rotted any where there is rubber or metal..

 

My father in law bought one of these new and put 250,000 on it and gave it to my brother in law. He put another 225,000 on it and sold it as a running vehicle. It never got garaged and neither of them were car nuts or mechanics. I was impressed.

 

Expect a good >200k miles from the engines, so you have lots of life left.

Expect rubber parts to be tired (belts, hoses, etc.), if they haven't been replaced. So yes, a failed radiator hose could strand you and make this a frustrating Daily Driver. But....if you make sure the rubber parts (mostly hoses & belts) are updated, it should be a good truck.

 

I DDed an 89 for a long time before I knew what a wrench was. If you got tools and time, take care of the truck and it will get you where you need to go.
set a budget for maintenance and keep fixing it. Itll feel like a money pit for a year or two but if you keep working on it, it will last longer than the plastic junk rolling off the line these days.
