Bilstein 5100 OEM Coil spring orientation
After installing Tundra coils on the the old Bilstein 5100 from Sonoran steel years ago, he notes in his instruction that the lower spring seat should be facing the frame. I used this info to install 4Runner specific Bilstein 5100 reusing my 99' tall coils, after looking at the FSM it specifies that the lower spring seat should be facing outwards as does the original shock indicate with a fixed lower spring seat. After close examination the coils natural arc face the lowest centre spot on the lower spring perch, so one coil arcs forward and the other arcs rearward installed with full weight of the vehicle which would be the case even if I turned the lower spring perch 180* so I assume this is a moot point/observation, **so my main question is should the lower spring seat using factory 99 coils face inward as per Sonoran steel(Tundra specific instructions for 3rd gen 4runner), or should they face outward as per the FSM. Most will say it doesn't matter much what the orientation is as long as driver and passenger coils are in the correct location, but I was curious if anyone else has experience with this and what "best practice" is, the FSM is pretty clear, but Steve is very clear about this aswell using his parts, and I consider him to be the go to guy for these trucks but he doesn't seem to be around here much this decade.
