I have had 33" tires now for over a year and have finally decided to regear, especially since I am only getting around 14 miles to the gal. I was wondering who does a good job on the Front Range, for the right price.

I'd be able to do your gears if you want. I usually charge $75 per diff if they're already removed or $150 if I have to remove them. You'd have to bring me the gears, install kits and gear oil of your choice.

 

I'll get back to you once I decide exactly what I want to do.

I could recommend Slee-Road and Off-Road Solutions. Of course they would be a lot more that 75.00 in labor per diff. These guys do install them often. I understand that gears from the two major company's can vary in quality quite a bit. Some recommend that you buy them and have them installed by the same shop who will warranty them in case they have issues. Christo Slee was actually telling us this at our Rising Sun meeting. He says he has had some quality issues, unless there genuine Toyota. But, those cost 2x 3x times as much. I'm personally decided to keep my Toy gears and go with a Marlin Crawler. It's about 2400.00 compared to 1800.00. That includes all parts and labor.

 

I had Mike Caskey http://www.offroadsolutions.com/meetthestaff.htm set-up my rear third member for me. He did a great job and was ready when he said it would be.

 

If I were you, and you wanted to head to a shop, I would head to ORS. Some have had issues in the past, but Mike has always done right by me.

As for the install and warranty stuff, that is really a tough call. If a shop is going to get you by the balls for too much on the gear cost, losing the warranty might be a wash. I am impressed to hear that much difference in quality from the same manufacturer. I have Precision and would not hesitate to get them again. Set up right, quality will show through. Set up wrong and they will all suck.

 

From what I understand both Yukon and Precision get their "raw materials" from a few sources which are often the same, which accounts for them being consistently "inconsistent" in quality. All you can do is hope for the best.
