Is the 84-88 tail light assembly interchangeable with the 89-94 assembly?

Is the 84-88 tail light assembly interchangeable with the 89-94 assembly?
I know the lenses are not swappable between the units but are the complete tail light housing assemblies the same dimensions with the same mount points? I'm guessing they are not but I do not have access to the 89-95 assembly to confirm.
