1st gen 4runner, 2nd gen truck crossmember differences?

Are the auto and manual trans crossmembers different widths on these vehicles? Took straight 22re auto crossmember off 4runner to put on truck. Tried to put the bent manual trans pu cross member back on 4runner to hold trans up and it seems bolt spacing ~1/2"-3/4" to long side to side?

Which crossmember fits/interchanges my 85 xcab 22re 5 speed pickup? Oh I searched, and searched, and searched...Haha

The one that matches your chassis model.

Yeah I'm not a lot of help tonight, atleast you out the model year in and I didn't have to roast you for trying to fit a 4runner cross member on a ~30 year earlier Stout/Pickup

Looks like the RN5 and RN7 series might interchange, the RN6 models are different. These first two are tucked up closer to the frame than the RN6's.

You can find these drawings at the end of the body section in your FSM.

And the chassis/frame # is on your build plague on the firewall.

Did you typo or is the one actually bent? A bend cross member I would not expect to line up very well on anything but the frame that it was bent on.

Thanks. Saw some of the frame dimensions in fsm, will have a look. I came across info that some of the aftermarket crossmembers for auto were a custom order, so I guess they are different? (or slotted?) Maybe it's the offset? Others say it bolts right up? A lot of conflicting info. Answer could be on this site, but after dozens of auto to manual swaps and multiple 30 page+ build threads thought I would post question. Bend could have stretched it for sure, but after the custom order aftermarket info=hmm?.

Measured up straight one I have from auto 4runner, will do same when I find a straight manual one. Would post that info but my cad/solidworks etc skills suck haha. Maybe photoshop.

Will get back on it when rain stops.

Your 1985 Truck is 4WD, right?

You will need a transmission cross member from a similar vehicle, meaning another 4WD manual truck. The automatic transmissions (I think, some one correct me if I am wrong) are a different size/length, so the cross member is in a slightly different location.

The RN5X series and RN7X series chassis are 2 wheel drive chassis, and those cross members are welded in from the factory, which are unlikely to work.

Thanks for replies. Seems like ifs crossmember a little different length, and doesn't fit rubber mount on my solid axle xcab and 4runner. Mount may work if rotated 180 as that ~2" dowel(?) that fits corresponding hole in crossmember is placed off center on mount. (Offset is forward of center for SA crossmember and needs to be to rear of center to be in ballpark of ifs crossmember) Edit: rockauto shows different part numbers possible for 85 and 87 trans mounts.

87 4runner 22re auto crossmember fit 87 shortbox 22r 5 speed, 86 4runner 22re 5 speed and 87 22re 5 speed xcab. Mounting bolt holes all too short lengthwise by ~3/8" to fit the solid axle 85 xcab 22re 5 speed and 85 4runner 22re 5 speed. (also the mount issue)

Edit: Should have mentioned auto crossmember fit frame bolt pattern on the ifs trucks above. No transmissions were in place.

Next is hacking frame to access stripped and broken nuts inside

Field diagram is embarrassing, will post dimensions later.
