I have a 91 4runner that was 3.0 originally that I swapped a 00 3.4 into. It has a 96 harness from a 2wd auto 4runner that I repinned for a 95 taco 4x4 MT ecm. The issue I have is the 3.4 turns over but will only fire on cylinders 2,4, and 6. Cylinders 1,3, and 5 don't seem to fire at all. Plugs wire and coils all brand new. What could cause this? Injector problems mabe?
You could check for fuel pressure at the rail and injector pulse with noid or test light. My guess is you crossed some wires when repinning the harness, although that would be affecting an even number of cylinders. Assume you're getting spark if other bank is firing.
I'm probably going to take the wiring harness out and double check everything. IV looked at a couple threads that popped up and one says to check the FC wire. IL get my diagrams out and check it all.
Believe FC grounds your COR which wouldn't allow fuel to any cylinders if it wasn't working. Check fuel, spark, and compression before you reopen your harness, either way. Did you not hear it run before, if you had to repin the harness?
It's actually out of a salvage yard and sat in the back for two years before I got to it. I'm surprised it even fired. My biggest concern was the harness catching fire. Now I just want to get that side firing to get the rest done. I don't know why it only fires on the right driver side. Unless the injectors on the passenger side are spraying at the wrong time.
A thought came up. The engine sat on its passenger side in the back of the 4runner for almost two years. The passenger side is what I'm having trouble with. Could the injectors be clogged from the fuel gelling up? Or maybe faulty?
