Hi all
There's a guy selling a 1980 Toyota 4wd pickup with a 22r engine in it. He says it's stock, never been changed. Is this possible? The title shows September 1980 as the 1st registration date. Toyota shows that the 1st trucks with the 22r engine were built in 1981, not 1980. I know on my 84 it has the tag on the firewall that shows the engine as 22r but the early trucks 1979-1984 don't have this tag. Is there another tag on the truck which would show what engine came with it or is this guy full of it.

 

Wish I could help more. From what I understand they didn't change to 22R until mid way through '81. Many early '81 trucks had 20R motors so it would seem like a 22R in an '80 is unlikely.

Is this guy the original owner? If he bought if from someone they could've insisted it was stock and that's the story he has stuck with.

If that's true then there is no way it came stock with the 22r. No he's not the original, I think the truck is older then him...............
