80 22r/20r pickup ignition coil?

Hey I'm new to this forum. I have a 1980 toyota pickup I got recently. I'm somewhat familiar with them as I had a 87 4runner that I did some work to. So my question is about the ignition coil. I have a 22r/20r engine. From looking at the coil in the truck, the person who had the truck before me wired a 22re coil and ignitor in. I don't know a ton about coils and ignitors but I know that from looking online that the 22r and 22re ones are different. I was hoping someone could shed some light on this and if it is ok to have done what he did and what the difference is between the 22r coil/ignitor and the 22re coil/ignitor. Thanks.

Still out there? I went through something like this on my 83, 22R. Someone had wired in a 22RE, probably because they found one at the junkyard, and if you've looked at the cost of ignitors, you can understand why. The problem with mine was that the plugs are different, so they cut and spliced the 22RE plug into the truck. So if I wanted to go back to the "right" ignitor, I'd need to find a 22R donor truck and cut the plug out of it and splice that in to get my truck back to stock. I'm sure there's a difference but my truck ran fine with the 22RE ignitor.

I'll tell you though that was a fun one trying to figure out why what was listed as the right part for my truck wouldn't plug in to the plug in my truck. Don't remember how I eventually figured out that someone changed out the plug and put in a later model ignitor but it was a frustrating process.
