22re Valve Cover Gasket

I recently purchased a 94 Pickup and I'm doing a tune up. I just have a question about the Valve Cover Gasket install. Does it need sealant or is it I sealled dry. Doesn't look like there is residue from sealant when I removed it. Just don't want any leaks.

thanks in advance!

The rubber valve cover gasket uses no sealant. Only sealer in this area is on the half moon seals to head junction.

Nope, there is no sealant around the valve cover gasket, except where the valve cover gasket meet the rubber half-circular plugs and on the half-circular plugs themselves, as shown below:

Just remember that the valve cover nuts do not get tightened down very much. The factory manual states 52 inch-pounds, which is barely anything. You basically want to only tighten the nuts down until the four rubber grommets that the nuts contact are just squishing out to the metal housing that the rubber is bonded to.

Nice!
Additional info: if they are too tight, the rockers can / will make contact. This results in ticking.
