94 pickup 2.4L tow question

Hi,

Acquired a 94 pickup recently with a rusty frame that has been patched at two spots - :1 by the drivers front (where the steering gear mounts to the frame) 2: passenger side below the seam between the bed and cab).

Otherwise the frame is pretty rusty but I do not see any rust holes. I have done a fair amount of poking with a knife and screwdriver and it seems solid - I am going to take a closer look at the passenger rear as I hear this is a common rot spot.

My questions are:

1) Would you all pull a small-ish trailer a few short ish trips (10-15 miles)? Total weight would be well under 1K probably more like 5-600 pounds.

2) In terms of dealing with this rust - does it pay to coat the underside with fluid film or am I better off grinding and sanding the rust away and applying some rust bullet? I do live in WI so it is quite salty here come winter time.

Any other places on the frame I should pay especially close attention too?

Thanks!
