I have a 1985 toyota 4runner that will idle low enough to the point the entire truck shakes bad, also will randomly kill its self when the clutch is pushed in, when it does the rpms drop really low which is causing it to die, starts back up and runs fine afterwards, and when it sits for to long it takes about seven or eight times to get it to start up.

 

Give us some history and specs on the truck. When you try to restart what does it do, or not do, what does it sound and/or smell like? When did this start to happen and what was done to it just prior?

 

Check for codes if its an RE motor. When was the last time it had a tune up, plugs wires cap rotor and also change fuel and air filter? Just basics but often overlooked.

Also if it is a RE motor have you jumped the diagnostic ports and checked timing and idle speed?

Tell us more about your truck. How long have you had it? Was it fine and then started doing this suddenly? Of has it been a slow build up over time? What engine and transmission? Any mods to the engine or stuff in the engine compartment? Any janky wiring?
