Under Hood and Bed LED's

Has anyone run strip LED's with a mercury tilt switch under their hood or in their bed? I have a topper so was looking to run the lights on the roof of the topper and have a mercury switch on the door of the topper. Flip the door up, the connection is made and the lights turn on.

Just curious if anyone here has run something similar and if there are any issues I should know about before hand.

On a positive note...I just got my windshield and rear window installed. This was the last step that needed to be complete so that I can get the safety done and get the truck registered and insured. Now I just have to wait for this snow to go away!!

Better off with a standard switch, either push type or angle, due to vibration. What happens when you hit a bump with a mercury switch?

Mercury switches are being phased out due to the obvious toxicity. Standard tilt switches today typically come with a ball inside, but still work on the same principle.

Though, getting a normally-closed switch may be better for longevity. The switch is pressed when the rear hatch is closed, but released when open (same as the "dome" switch for the front doors).

As for lights, go for it! Lots of people on eBay sell LED module strings. These typically come in strings, and can be cut where necessary. The best part is a lot of them have mounting holes or come with adhesive backing. Search for "LED module"

Good luck!
