1993 22RE oil

I was going to change the oil in my 1993 toyota pickup today and I was wondering what people recommend for oil. Its a 22RE. Thanks in advance!

Due to its camshaft design and lack of roller lifters you need to use an oil for old style muscle car engines with solid lifters. I use Mobil One 10w-30 and have no issues.

If you want an oil comparison see Rat540 blog, he tests motor oil for wear characteristics, an interesting read.

If it's not a very high-mileage engine or it's cold where you live, you can't go wrong with 10w30 (or even 5w30 if it's never over 50°F outside).

Conventional oil or a blend seems to be what most pro builders recommend for a 22re.

I use Valvoline conventional 10w30 year-round on my newer rebuild because it's good, available all over and 5 qt jugs are cheap at Wally world. Supertech is just fine also, if you're saving pennies. Use a Toyota yzzd1 or yzzd3 filter (there's a good deal on ebay for a case of d1's with drain plug gaskets, I've bought it twice now) and change it every 3000 miles.
