Insurance valuation - total loss - Is this a good deal???

Hey guys,

I flipped my 2004 Xtracab 4x4 V6 Tacoma during a recent snow storm on I-70. Just got the insurance valuation back and they are offering $12569 for my truck. Wondering if y'all think it's a good deal or not.

Yikes! Sorry for your loss. Glad you seem to have fared well though. Have you tried kbb.com or nadaguides.com? Also try craigslist for comparable vehicles. Without looking it seems like a decent deal for 13 year old truck but I do know Toyota trucks hold their value pretty well.

What are your options? I mean aren't you kind of at the mercy of the insurance company?

It looks like a reasonable offer to me. It doesn't look like there's really much you could do about it. It certainly doesn't look worth fixing. A vehicles worth depends on a lot of factors. While Tacoma's do hold their value good, insurance doesn't usually add modifications into the worth. To add to it, vehicles are deemed high mileage around 75k these days even if it's is known to be reliable over 250k. Insurance doesn't care. To them your truck is crazy high. If I were in your position I'd accept it and get another taco. Luckily 12k is close to what you'll pay for a similar replacement.

Oh and it's insurance. Do they really give you a choice? What's option b?
