Rear wheel bearing? Same parts all years?

Hey everyone, I'm going to be doing the rear wheel bearings on a 2002 4Runner as described in this writeup:

I'm ordering parts and some of the parts "fit check" tools on some sites are saying it's not a fit.

It's a 2002 SR5, 4 wheel drive, 3.4L, ABS-equipped. I am using the exact parts listed in the writeup.

Am I gonna be alright or did the parts change from one year to another among 3rd gens?

There were changes in the axle shafts sometime in 1999, IIRC. Those changes were accompanied by changes in the wheel bearing. It's best to go to a Toyota dealer and give your truck's VIN so they can give you the correct part.

You need axle bearing 90363-40063. Correction per zz denis below: 903063-40068.

For some reason Toyota's parts lists separate the two between '00 and '01, but parts suppliers draw the line between '99 and '00. Case in point:

I just did an axle bearing myself on my five-lug truck on Sunday. The parts were a set from Marlin Crawler that I bought years ago for an '00 PreRunner.

Side note: I also reused the ABS rotor. Toyota tells you to grind it thin and then split it to remove, but I think that's to keep people from mangling it with a bearing splitter or puller. Mine pressed right off with the bearing after removing the inboard retaining ring and bearing snap ring. The bearing retainer ring pushed it off from the center and kept it from getting bent.

You're mistaken. The correct part number for the rear bearing for his truck is 90363-40068. 96-08/2000 trucks use one bearing (90363-40020) and 08/2000-2002 use another one (90363-40068). The later bearing has a wider inner race. The outer oil seal for 2000+ trucks is also different from earlier trucks.

I thought that's what I put down. I even Googled before hand to see that pictures were readily available. You're right, though; typographical error on my part. The one I listed apparently cross-refs to a throwout bearing...don't use that on the axle.

I used 90363-40068. Thanks.

Flipped the inboard retainers as suggested here: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-ge...xle-seals.html
