I am trying to get my 89 pickup smogged and when you jumper the diag plug the idle does not drop. Currently you see the timing mark jump around.

v6 3vze

i have adjusted the throttle body and tested the tps. Everything is working.

I dont know where to go from here now. It idles perfect, just doesn't drop rpm with the jumper.

Start by checking your TPS, is more likely to be the culprit here, as soon as you jump the diag plug the RPM's should drop right away. http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml

thanks for the reply, i had mentioned in my post that the tps checked out fine and was adjusted. I even tried another tps, no change. So its not the tps at this point. I am thinking distributor at this point. Anyone know where to get one at a decent price?

Ok, replaced the distributor and the problem still exists!!

Anyone have any other ideas?

I sprayed carb carb cleaner on the vac lines and didn't detect any leaks.

Are you certain your jumper is making good contact? I usually have to wiggle the thing around a bit before I get a good connection(verified by the CEL flashing 4x/sec).
