I daily a 87 4Runner & I'm looking to upgrade the suspension. I tow a 6x10 trailer from time to time so I'm looking for a setup that will daily ride very comfortable and tow safely is this a realistic goal?

Year ??

Then how much weight 1000 pounds or 10,000 might make some difference

Funny how my 4Runner would gain weight in a few weeks I could easily have 1500 pounds of things

I rebuilt the front suspension with Toyota Parts Monroe Sensatrac shocks

The Rear was new springs from General Spring The same shocks for the rear a few times I drug Toyota pick ups home on a Car Dolly

Maybe once every two weeks I would drag a Miller Big 40or 50 or something similar to job sites a 100 miles away

 

I do not like towing with any 4x4, period. Does it work, can you do it, yes. Just not my cup of tea. If you keep the weight down and speed down lower, you will be fine. Otherwise you get into issues. What like for towing? a big extra cab PU with dually axles. Hauls with authority, and safety.

 

Do you have stock tire size, gears, suspension, motor? What about add-on's like bumpers, roof racks, tire carrier, so on. A lot of variables. Do you want to modify at all? If you want to carry some weight and have a nice ride, AND gain some lift, get some chevy 63's and good shocks. Basically, we need more to go off of.

 

There is towing and there is moving things from point A to B .

For real serious towing I like my Ford F250 7.3 can`t beat a 3/4 ton truck

 

How much weight do u plan to haul? A 6x10 trailer can get heavy very fast!

U need to consider your hauling capacity minus weight of trailer, minus any mods (i.e. 120 pound winch and bumper..) minus any cargo and passengers, finally minus actual load in trailer.

Older Toyotas are pretty underpowered as is so really not great for towing.

You are NOT going to SAFELY increase your towing capacity by upgrading your suspension! What about the limits of your brakes? Engine? Frame?

If your not hauling much weight your probably ok just beefing up rear springs but beyond that get a bigger truck to suit ur hauling needs maybe u don't need a dually but a 3/4 ton domestic truck is ideal for towing.

It comes down to weight and frequency for you. A lot of weight often get bigger truck. A lot of weight rarely rent a truck. Alittle weight often get the Chevy 63s.

Either way provide as much info as possible. What engine you got? Weight you plan to haul, how often and where- up in the mtns or on highway?
