Replacement fuel tank for 03 Tacoma

Guys, I just signed up on this forum for the title, if nothing else. To all you tech guys..........I am NOT a DIY guy. I have an honest mechanic, so I pay him.

I need a replacement tank for my 03 Taco Xtra CAB V-6. Mine was patched up about 5 years ago with expoxy but letting go again. I'm smelling fuel. I could pay to have this patch done again with epoxy, but it is now a larger area, and that is at least a few hundred bucks, so I'm looking at NEW tanks.

So far, I've spotted Spectra 18.5 gallon Steel tank for about 350 bucks. What are my options / brands / quality?

My mechanic also mentioned Dorman (SP?) Anyone know of a direct replacement PLASTIC tank for this truck? If not what are my choices as far as a quality replacement?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Brian

You might try a used one from someone parting out a Truck on here

I bought a new one from the dealer a few years back it was not that expensive but then it is just the bare naked tank .

Everything else also needs to bought.

Just what happened yours started to leak ??

Impact damage ?? Rust ?

Never used Epoxy Although I have welded quite a few over the years for a nice paycheck

My mechanic hasn't actually pulled it out as I need it on crappy days to commute to work. He fixed a few other things and wanted to let me know my options........................We expect it's just rust spreading outside or through the previous epoxy patch. I figured I'd just reach out to a few TOY forums, because someone must have gone through this by now. Thanks for reply.
