WTB: W56 Transmission

Hello,

I'm looking for a W56 transmission. W56-B specifically (87 4runner)

Jim's in Denver has one for $250 with 30 day warranty but it's unknown mileage and condition.

Looking for something solid around that price since it's my DD.

I'm in Denver

Thanks!

Hey man,
I have a brand new marlin crawler rebuilt W56 for sale. Can't post an ad to classified since I have less than 15 posts. Been on the list since 2014 but spend more time on Mud.

May be more than you want to spend but they are worth it!

I got some up in Michigan, but tats like a 22 hour trip one way lol. 140k miles, and with the "drill test" the output bearing has a very light noise. I never heard the noise in the 86 4x4 truck.

To define the drill test, I take a drill and tighten the chuck to the input shaft and spin up the trans in neutral, then 1st, 2nd etc to hear how the gears are meshing together and if the bearings are smooth. Very low miles or well maintained transmissions shouldn't have any grumble at all. I sold a 67k miles W46 with the same test with 100% no odd noises.

One thing you didn't mention, which probably isn't a big deal, but do you need 4x4 or 2wd trans? The tail housing is different, but you can always swap it from your current trans.
