Anyone have a idea how much paint I would need to paint my truck? It's tan right now and I really don't like it.

I was thinking of just painting in my garage with everything covered using my craftsman 30 gal compressor and buying a decent gun

Depends are you painting the inside of the cab the engine bay all the extras .

Just the exterior ??

I always used a roller or brush not much of a body person as I go for the multi color look if there is not more then 3 different colors I just bought the vehicle.

 

I'd like to paint the interior also. I didn't even think of that..... I think I'll pass on the engine bay

I wanted a satin black color and I'm not very picky about the finish.
I'm just not feeling the light tan color it's painted. The paint is in decent shape for being almost 30 yrs old but it's not my cup of tea

 

It can`t look much worse then if it was painted blindfolded .

By your spray gun keep the air dry and make it look good.

 

The original tan is a pretty nice color, at least I've always liked Toyota tan when it's cleaned up and presentable. Looks good with black armor and tint and maybe a stripe/decal IMO. Satin/flat black is pretty played out these days but to each their own.

Anyways, people do roll on paint jobs all the time. Usually they use rustoleum usually or even I've seen Behr latex paint jobs on stuff like flat paneled military vehicles. I read the key to the rustoleum paint job is plenty of wet sanding, you can also do clear over.

I hear the cheap HVLP gun from harbor freight is a good quality with low enough price to just toss it instead of cleaning it afterward.

No idea on volume of paint needed - 3 quarts to spray? If rolling I'd go with at least 1gallon, maybe more?

 

The color is OK but it has several deep black scratches making it look like poop
