Question FZJ105 Droning

G'day Folks,

Just joined up today as I have heard a lot of good things about this forum.

Ok

Basically my truck is a 2000 FZJ105 280K kms, 4spd auto, and is a burger with the lot. Have many un troubled years of service from the old girl, but now she is starting to give me little strange hints

Issues that I know of and are on the to do list.
1) Leaky rocker cover gasket
2) Diff oil leaking from air compressor solenoid (lockers) again.
3) A strange droning noise when the truck is doing between 60 - 100kmh or when taking the foot of the go go pedal. 0 - 60 the noise is very faint.... at 100 on the freeway....when the truck is cruising along the droning is still audible but not near as audible when 60 and under....

Number 3 is MAIN CONCERN - The other day I started to drive off and the engine sounded like had a really bad ping...the noise increased and decreased with acceleration/deceleration, last for about 30seconds.... did again slightly the other day. Got home listened to engine with bonnet up, all sounded normal except for a noticeable dull exhaust leak type of sound or leaking vacumn, a bit like the noise from the tail pipe but not as loud...hope that makes sense. Checked the exhaust could not anything obvious. This all inter tangles...about two weeks I noticed a very slight droning sound that appears to be coming from under the bonnet. 2 weeks later the noise has become pain I can hear no abnormal exhaust noises other than the drone. My question is could it be the exhaust or could the leaky rocker gasket be a contributor to the drone. Sorry if this seems a bit weird, but I am trying to avoid running from mechanic to exhaust shops and getting the run around.... Re the rocker cover.... its at the point when I top up with oil I can see the new oil seeping out the back corner of the cover....not to the point where its dripping down the engine...yet.

Thanks heaps in advance

Try asking this over on ih8mud, 100-series forum. We got the uzj100 here in the US, with a 2uz v8 engine - not the 105 series with the inline 6. Over there on mud are more guys overseas who may be able to help diagnose your problem. Good luck!
