Is the 'milkshake ' prone to specific years of 'runners/trucks w/ the auto? I never had that experience w/ my previous '89 pickup truck - 22re w/AT (360+ k miles) nor w/ my wife's '99 Taco w/ 197+ k miles (but I had replaced the radiators in both when I did the T-chain/belt). The reason I ask is a colleague's wife owns an 2010 'runner w/ 160 K miles and I didn't want to mention the 'shake if it isn't specific to that year. If so, at what approx. mileage does the 'shake become a factor? Thnx

 

It can happen on any vehicle that shares a transmission cooler with the engine coolant in the same radiator .

Another cost saving measure

Also the age of the radiator plays into it happening as well as pure bad luck.

Does using the vehicle in off road driving contribute to this happening who can say.

All 3rd gen years with auto trans.
Many believe that inadequate maintenance/replacement of the coolant is to blame. I saw it happen to a guy I used to work for...only it was a Freightliner FL50, and it needed a $6000 rebuilt transmission. He never did any preventative maintenance.
Changing out the radiator is cheap and easy...there's no excuse.
