Swapping 5 Speed into my 83?
I'm in the middle of changing the clutch in my 83 Pickup with the 22R engine. I have a extra Transmission and transfercase from a 22RE top shift 5 speed that I was thinking about putting in. Will these interchange? Are the clutch's different? Also looks like maybe the starter is different? What else would I need to do this? Here are some pictures

Off the top of my head an 83 pickup has an L52 and the 22re probably has a W56. The W56 is generally considered the better of the two but will require crossmember modification and may require driveline modification. Never done the swap myself. Check MarlinCrawler for info. Marlin does Toyo drivetrains.

From Marlin site:
L 50 & 52 trans is 20.875" long.
Both G and W series trans are 25.5" long.
So that would mean you would need to relocate your crosmember and get drivelines lengthened/shortened.
If you used the t-case from the new trans the bolt pattern on the flanges would be diferent as well (only pretty sure on this, not positive).
Edit: Looking at the pics, looks like a L43 side shift 4 speed trans you have? Not stock for an 83 but same length as the other L transmissions.
