22R intake coolant leak

Hi.

I have just replaced the timing chain & head gasket on my 1992 22r Lux. When I refilled the coolant I noticed a leak from around the centre of the intake manifold. Looks like this is coming from the thermostatic valve. Ok that's no biggie...but, when I took the carb off the manifold so I get could to the bolts to remove it again I noticed water inside the manifold, under the carb.

How would coolant get there? Or would that be related to the leak around the valve?

Also, on the thick gasket where the carb connects to the manifold, is there supposed to be gasket sealant applied there?

Thanks

There is a chamber with engine coolant circulating in it at the bottom, but still attached, to the intake manifold. The electric carburetor heater (it actually heats the fuel) is attached to that plate.

You can see the plate in this attached parts fiche, it is part number 16353:

No sealant on that plastic spacer. If you bought a new OEM one, it will already have a gasket on both sides.
