Hi guys! First post here, to my suprise I didn`t find any introduction section but oh well. Okay back to the subject. I bought this truck (1990 4x4 5spd) 1 week ago with no working speedo. ECU pops code 42, no speed signal. So my truck has the SR5 (with all the oil pressure and guages) cluster , so it should be cable driven? But when I look on the transmission I see an electric VSS, even my local toyota dealer looked up my serial number and said it should be cable driven. The speedo and trip meter doesn't work. Here's the picture of the said sensor on the transmission. Also, you can see its seems cracked, I pulled of the insulation to see if the wires matches the vss color code and it does... Im lost.
Ok I removed the cluster today, it is cable driven. So that probably means the transfer case was changed in the truck life but theres no cavle cable to be seen anywhere. So I would need the throttle cable aswell as the gear drive for it, no idea where I could find that in my area, do I need both the gear drive and cable or the cable could thread in the end of my gear drive? Here's some pictures
Haven't got any reply but oh well, I guess I'll convert to mechanical on my transfer case, now my last question for this post is that my t-case has the bigger bore VSS hole, so I would need this part:
But I can't seem to find a part number anywhere, I only found one for the smaller bore one. Anybody knows what could be the part number for this speedo driven gear assembly?
I ran into this same issue when I did my 5spd swap.. And as far as I know, that mechanical soeedo sender unit is not available anywhere. It's an item you are gonna have to search hard for lol. Post in the classifieds here and call around your local wrecking yards. That's what I did and the first place I called had one!!
