Anyone ever Turbo a Carbed 20R or 22R?

Hey guys getting ready build an engine soon weighing a bunch of options. I was mainly leaning towards a 20R/22R hybrid as I have both a 22R and 20R. Motor will either go in my 82 2WD pickup or my 76 RA29 Celica. Either way I wan't a very wicked street motor. Something I can drive easy if I want to and something that will get absolutely rediculous if I want. Not for hauling or rock crawling/climbing.. just a straight up street motor. But very fun.

So I was considering building a 20R/22R hybrid carbureted turbo motor has anyone ever done? Or would I be better off just getting a 22RE and building that as a turbo motor? I would probably have a lot easier time with a carb set up as I know next to nothing about fuel injection.. computer wiring and sensors etc.. Any info is appreciated.

Been also considering a 3TC build as well but they seem a little more hard to come by than the old R motors. And would require swapping transmission and fabricating mounts and everything else involved a swap.

What do you guys think?

Would like something comparable to this when its done:

Here's some stuff. A lot of it has to do with propane.

You will need a blow-through carb, and a lot of understanding about forced induction and carb tuning, be prepared to make a lot of adjustements constantly, wideband a/f gauge, egt gauge, spark plug reading, etc. I would start with a 20r because of the low comp, but I would personally go fuel injection for forced induction, something like the holley universal EFI kit on a custom manifold, much safer, easier to tune (I think it is self-learing), efficient, drivable at part throttle, etc. Pick up a book about fuel injection it really isn't complicated.

I'd scrap the forced induction idea altogether and go with a 3rz. A stock RZ beats a 22RTE no problem, plus 3RZ engines can also be built or forced for even more power. If you're looking for performance per dollar the 22R/E is one of the worst choices there is once you start getting into hot stuff. Unless you're just an R fan, and in that case I'd suggest a screw over a turbo for a carb.
