My mother has a '92 4Runner V6 and needs a good mechanic in the Whidbey Island area of Washington state. She has it at a shop now, but it sounds like they are trying to upsell everything. The truck was a well maintained 1-owner. She lives in NC most of the time (so do I) so the truck sits a fair bit.


Anyway, anyone have any suggestions I can pass along?

She took it in for a speedometer issue and is being given a long list of things it needs to address problems she didn't have. She is being told that the speedometer repair is a gear in the speedometer and has to be sent off to be repaired to the tune of $500. She called the dealer in Bellingham and was told they could replace the speedo for around $350.

I'm waiting for a call from the shop so I can get the scoop directly and help translate shop-speak to my mother, at the very least.
